FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Vander is an imposing mountain of a man. At 6’7”/202cm tall, he towers over most people, and his broad shoulders and muscular frame only add to that effect. His dark hair is kept somewhat short and slicked back, and the short-trimmed beard that once matched it is now peppered with gray to betray his age. His deep voice is usually kept measured and even.

While he can at times wear a severe expression to match his impressive stature, generally most will find Vander with a calm and inviting demeanor. He knows how to reign in his intimidating presence with laid-back and friendly body language and the softening of his gray-green eyes. He prefers down-to-earth clothing like simple shirts and trousers, sturdy boots and an open jacket to tie it all together. Wears a bracer over his right forearm to cover up an old scar.


SHARD
His shard appears rough and unrefined, a deep green color that almost seems to have a smoky swirl of black within it. It is roughly the width of a tangerine and offset to the left side of his chest.

ASPECT TATTOO
The tattoo is simple and black, roughly the size of a quarter. It is located on the inner side of his right forearm, the sharp and crisp lines of it juxtaposed with the uneven and jagged scar just next to it. As it is alongside his scar, it will likely be covered up at most times.

PERSONALITY
Vander is a dependable man who puts the well-being of those he cares about above himself. Anyone who comes to befriend him will find themselves with a protective ally who will always have their back. Most will find him displaying a subdued sort of joviality, with a sense of humor that errs on the sardonic side. He is patient and thoughtful, hesitant to take risks if he deems the cost to be too high. He is the sort of man for which the consequences of every action and decision he makes do not get brushed aside easily. The guilt from past mistakes is not something he can bring himself to banish.

He is stern when the need arises, adopting a hard edge that varies in severity depending on circumstance. This can be true when he is in a protective mindset, or when he feels it important to steer those he cares about from making mistakes. These days he mostly succeeds at keeping his old anger from getting out of hand, but occasional flashes of it can slip through. Deep down, a flicker of the rebellious spirit of his youth still lingers, and has the small potential to be stoked once more if pushed in the right direction.

BACKGROUND
Born and raised in the undercity of Zaun, unrecognized in its sovereignty from the ruling city of Piltover above, Vander did not come from an idyllic upbringing. The city nestled in the fissures saw little natural light and the air was largely poisoned from the mines and factories that many Zaunites and their children were forced to work. As a youth, Vander worked alongside Silco to develop a thriving black market and smuggling operation to escape a life of toiling in the mines, and the two of them soon sought to make their dream of a free and independent Zaun a reality.

And then came the Day of Ash. The exact details are hazy on whether what Vander led that day began as a protest or outright rebellion of a large gathering of Zaunites at Piltover’s doorstep, but we do know its result: the brutal lashing out of Pilover’s Enforcers and the deaths of many of his people.

Seeing these deaths took the fight out of Vander, the responsibility of it weighing heavily on him. He adopted 4 kids orphaned by the fighting and set aside his dream of pushing for freedom, pivoting to simply doing his best to protect his people within their circumstances. This didn’t sit well with his brother-in-arms Silco, and the two of them had a violent falling out that resulted in Vander almost succeeding in drowning him until Silco stabbed him in the arm to get away. He maintained a position of de-facto leader for many of the people of Zaun in the following years while running a bar down in the Lanes, well respected for the tenuous peace he brokered for them with the Enforcers.

ABILITIES & SKILLS
MERIDIAN TIER 1
  • Heroism: A willing creature you touch is imbued with bravery. For one minute, the creature is immune to being frightened.
  • Fog Cloud: You create a 20-foot/6 meters radius sphere of fog centered on a point you can see. The sphere spreads around corners, and its area is heavily obscured. It lasts for one hour or until a wind of moderate or greater speed (at least 10 miles/16.1 kilometers per hour) disperses it.
  • Shield: An invisible barrier of magical force appears and protects you for one minute. The shield will protect you from one attack, at which point it immediately shatters and cannot be cast again for ten minutes.
MERIDIAN TIER 2
  • Alter Self: You assume a different form. When you cast the spell, choose one of the following options, the effects of which last for 1 hour. While the spell lasts, you can end one option to gain the benefits of a different one.
    • Aquatic Adaptation. You adapt your body to an aquatic environment, sprouting gills and growing webbing between your fingers. You can breathe underwater and gain a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
    • Change Appearance. You transform your appearance. You decide what you look like, including your height, weight, facial features, sound of your voice, hair length, coloration, and distinguishing characteristics, if any. You also can't appear as a creature of a fundamentally different size than you, and your basic shape stays the same; if you're bipedal, you can't use this spell to become quadrupedal, for instance. At any time for the duration of the spell, you can use your action to change your appearance in this way again.
    • Natural Weapons. You grow claws, fangs, spines, horns, or a different natural weapon of your choice.
  • Counterspell: You interrupt a creature in the process of casting a spell. If the creature is casting a spell in this spellbook or lower, its spell fails and has no effect.
  • Nondetection: For 8 hours, you hide a target that you touch from divination magic. The target can be a willing creature or a place or an object no larger than a few feet in any dimension. The target can't be targeted by any divination magic or perceived through magical scrying sensors.
OTHERS
  • Erupting Earth: While standing on or just slightly above solid ground, concentrate on a point within range and make an upward sweeping motion with a hand to cause an eruption of stone and earth to shoot into the air. The direction of the motion roughly correlates to the direction the fountain of earth will initially take. Can optionally make a thrusting motion with the other hand once its in the air move it in another direction like a projectile, the speed and force of which will depend on the size and/or quantity of rubble being moved.
    • Range is 60 ft
    • Area of Effect ranges from 3-15 feet in diameter, the high end of which requires more energy and focus and is something he’ll need to practice to achieve
    • The number of times this can be cast varies by how wide the AoE is, being limited to 2-3 times when used at its maximum size
